Tutoring

A crucial element in student’s development is a tutoring programme.  In tutoring, drawing from a long-term tradition of our school, we treat each student as an individual being and exceptional personality. Using special tutoring tools helps students to make a relevant choice of DP path, effectively plan and use time.

A crucial element in a student’s development is our tutoring program. Building on the long-standing tradition of our school, we approach each student as a unique individual with exceptional potential. By using specialized tutoring tools and personalized guidance, we help students make informed decisions about their DP path and develop effective time management and planning skills.

What tutoring is

Tutoring is a personalized method of supporting the student through a series of meetings with the tutor. It is „personalized” because it focuses on the comprehensive development and improvement of the student in the school and outside of it.

Tutor’s oversight helps students to get to know and use his own talnts, to find srenghts and deepen his knowledge and understanding as well as plan the future.

Tutoring – between coaching and mentoring

In the business world, coaching and mentoring have become very popular. Tutoring is closely related to these two methods of development and often uses similar tools. However, it differs in many important ways.

Coaching focuses on recognizing a person’s talents and potential. It supports growth and change by helping individuals develop in areas where they already have some competence. A coach remains neutral and follows the client’s lead, using the client’s own resources to facilitate progress.

Mentoring, on the other hand, emphasizes the transfer of knowledge from an experienced individual (the mentor) to the learner. In this approach, there is little room to explore the student’s personal interests or talents. It also tends to neglect holistic development—an essential element of the tutoring approach practiced in our school.

In the relationship between a tutor and a student, the tutor holds a position of authority—not to impose, but to guide. This authority is used to support the student on their path to self-actualization by offering different perspectives and helping them achieve their goals.

For whom tutoring is?

Tutoring is intended for all students who feel a strong need for self-actualization and wish to deepen their knowledge and interests. To participate in a tutoring program, one must be committed to self-development and willing to engage in sustained, meaningful work.

Scientific and Developmental Tutoring

A personalized approach and close collaboration between the tutor and the student are essential elements of effective tutoring. Based on these principles, tutoring can be divided into two main types: Developmental Tutoring and Scientific Tutoring.

W naszym liceum proponujemy uczniom MYP(ic) przede wszystkim tutoring rozwojowy, choć w uzasadnionych przypadkach może on przybrać formę bardziej naukową.

W roczniku DP1 proponujemy przede wszystkim tutoring naukowy, który ma za zadanie wspierać ambicje ucznia, przede wszystkim w kontekście przygotowania skutecznej aplikacji na studia.

Tutoring boundries

Tutoring is not a form of psychological therapy.
Tutoring is future-oriented and aims to help students grow, gain confidence, and reach their full potential. While a tutor may sometimes notice signs that a student could benefit from psychological support, addressing these needs is beyond the scope of tutoring. In such cases, the tutor may recommend a meeting with a school psychologist or another qualified professional.

A tutor is not a replacement for a fore-tutor.
The tutoring process typically lasts 3 to 4 months and focuses on specific goals agreed upon by both the tutor and the student. In contrast, a fore-tutor supports the student over a longer period—two years in the MYP and two years in the DP. While the roles, responsibilities, and areas of expertise of tutors and fore-tutors differ, they are designed to complement each other in guiding the student’s development.

How does tutoring look like at our school?

Tutoring at Our Lycée
The tutoring program at our lycée was introduced in 2015. Since then, we have gained valuable experience in planning and implementing personalized student development. Over the years, we have also focused on training and supporting our teachers to become qualified tutors, equipped to guide students through their individual learning journeys.

Our tutors

Tutors at our school are experienced educators with a strong background in both teaching and tutoring. They are passionate about student development and are committed to nurturing personal growth. Their goal is to inspire and instill a mindset of continuous learning and self-improvement in each student.

Qualified and Continuously Growing
All of our tutors have completed professional training that equips them to actively support students in their personal and academic development. Our school fully supports their commitment to self-development and encourages them to continually refine their skills and expand their expertise.

Our goals

A Personalized Approach to Holistic Development
The aim of our tutoring program is to support students in achieving their holistic development goals—academically, personally, and socially. Because the process is personalized, there is no fixed schedule of meetings. Instead, the frequency and focus of sessions are tailored to each student’s individual needs and agreed upon collaboratively by the tutor and the student.

Framework Goals for Tutoring
While each tutoring process is personalized, there are overarching framework goals that guide developmental tutoring—particularly for students in the MYP (Middle Years Programme). These goals typically focus on areas such as building self-awareness, developing learning strategies, improving time management, strengthening motivation, and fostering responsibility for one’s own learning journey.

Key Goals of the Tutoring Program

Our tutoring program is designed to guide students through a meaningful process of self-development. The key goals include:

    • Encouraging and supporting students on their path to self-development
Tutors help students reflect on their personal growth and take ownership of their learning journey.

    • Discovering individual talents and strengths
Through conversation and observation, tutors assist students in identifying their unique abilities and interests.

    • Building the ability to set long-term goals
Students learn how to define meaningful, realistic goals that align with their values and aspirations.

    • Creating an academic and personal action plan
Tutors support students in designing a strategic plan for their time at school, balancing academic responsibilities with personal development.

    • Guidance in choosing future studies and career paths
Tutors help students explore their interests and make informed decisions about further education and professional directions.

    • Developing time management and organizational skills
Students are introduced to practical tools and strategies that improve efficiency, reduce stress, and support academic success.
